Australasian Rail Industry Awards – Winner: Project SABRE
Recognise and celebrate the achievements, innovation and successes of those working in the rail industry
Taylor Rail recently completed works with Mainland Civil on the Patrick Sydney AutoRail Terminal (Project SABRE), a groundbreaking collaboration between Patrick Terminals and NSW Ports.
This project was crowned Project of the Year at the 2024 Engineers Australia Excellence Awards – People and Projects Sydney!

Project SABRE, jointly funded by NSW Ports and Patrick Terminals, has revolutionised rail operations at Patrick Terminals, Port Botany with the introduction of the world’s first fully automated on-dock rail terminal (AutoRail) integrated within an automated container terminal.
The project has doubled the terminal’s rail capacity and significantly improved train turnaround times through its state-of-the-art automated rail handling facility. By enabling faster, more reliable cargo scheduling and seamless integration with Patrick’s automated container terminal, AutoRail delivers greater efficiency, stronger supply chain resilience, and enhanced connectivity between global trade and regional NSW.
Taylor Rail is proud to have worked on such an innovative project.
